What happened
On September 24, 2026, at approximately 18:31 (UTC), Bitget experienced a hot and warm wallet security breach involving unauthorized transfers resulting in a final confirmed loss of approximately $387.5 million, while cold wallets remained unaffected. CEO Gracy Chen announced the incident and temporary withdrawal suspension via her official X account and announcements on September 24 and 25, 2026. All user losses are fully covered by Bitget's $464 million User Protection Fund. Following a phased resumption plan that restored BTC on September 28, ETH/Layer-2 on September 29, and USDT on September 30, all cryptocurrency, fiat, and C2C withdrawals were fully completed as of October 2, 2026.
