What is a Pending Order? — Buying and Selling Automatically While You Sleep

A pending order is setting a rule in advance to "buy or sell when the price reaches a certain level." We explain the difference between limit and market orders, why exchanges reject orders too far from the current price, and how we bridge that gap.

In One Sentence

A pending order is setting a rule in advance to "buy or sell when the price reaches this specific level." Since you cannot watch the screen 24/7, you are letting a system monitor the conditions on your behalf.

Market Orders vs. Limit Orders

  • Market Order — "Buy right now." Execution is guaranteed, but you do not know the exact price you will get. If the order book is thin (meaning there are few buyers and sellers at nearby prices), you might end up buying at a much higher price than expected.
  • Limit Order — "Buy only at this specific price." The price is guaranteed, but execution is not guaranteed. If the market price never reaches your specified level, the trade simply will not happen.

For beginners, we recommend starting with limit orders first. Market orders are tools to be used only when you are in a hurry, and feeling rushed in trading is rarely a good sign.

Can't I Just Place These Orders Directly on the Exchange?

In most cases, yes. However, you will run into two main limitations:

  1. Exchanges do not accept limit orders that are too far from the current market price. For example, if you try to place an order to buy at half the current price, most exchanges will reject it with an error like "price out of allowed range." Yet, this is exactly the kind of order beginners need the most — "buy only if the price crashes."
  2. It is difficult to manage conditions across multiple exchanges and multiple cryptocurrencies. You would have to open and check different exchange apps one by one.

What AntProfit Does

  • Orders that buy when the price falls or sell when it rises are placed directly on the exchange as limit orders, as long as the exchange accepts the price (even if our servers go down, that order stays active on the exchange).
  • For distant prices that the exchange rejects, we monitor the market on your behalf and send the order to the exchange only when the price comes within range.
  • Stop-loss sells (sell if the price drops), breakout buys (buy if it climbs above a level), sets where only the condition reached first runs, and orders for a set time or right now are not placed on the exchange in advance. We watch the market and send a market order the moment the condition is met (the price can slip by the spread at that moment).
  • Once your condition is met and the trade is executed, you will receive a notification (via Telegram, app push, or email).
  • We only request API keys without withdrawal permissions. Transferring or withdrawing assets is always done directly by you on the exchange.

Three Things to Decide Before Setting an Order

  1. At what price — Not the current price, but the target price where you want to buy.
  2. How much to buy — Do not use your entire balance at once; split it into parts. If you buy everything at once, you won't have any funds left to buy if an even better price comes along.
  3. What to do if you are wrong — Decide where to stop and cut losses if the price moves in the opposite direction. If you do not set this, your losses will keep growing.
A pending order does not guarantee profits. It simply executes your pre-set conditions automatically on your behalf.
